thank you for your wonderful site - we live in the south east of Portugal and I have one small ginkgo in the ground but it is struggling ! I have been given some seed and your site has inspired me to try your suggested method for germination. I hope to have more ginkgo trees.

There is a ginkgo tree in the Capability Brown designed, Newton Park, Bath currently occupied by Bath Spa University. I think its a male and its leaves are not divided at all. Its beside the Greek temple and is about 30ft tall.

Came upon yr beautiful site by chance, while roaming around the web in search of evolutionary biology "stuff". Enjoyed the excellent photographs and info. If I ever visit my origins (Holland) again, I'll hope to see the Gingko and Carolus in Harderwijk. Thanks and Greetings from Canada.

Hello Cor, I'm a complete novice and am trying to germinate about 20 seeds I picked up from the ground. I'm not doing to well. They don't seem to be germinating after having had them in fairly moist soil for quite a while now? Any advice?

Wonderful to find this in depth info: I have wanted a Ginko tree and have discovered a grove of trees in a local Moravian cemetary and collected seeds and will attemp to grow seedlings to plant in my yard. Thanks very much. Charles D. Nanney

Hi, Cor!
There are many Ginkkgos in my city, especially in a square near my house. I picked two nuts this spring and one is doing quite well.
I wanted to tell you that there is a special place here in Rosario, the Bosque de la Memoria, "Memory Forest", in homage to the detained disappeared during the late coup de etat. In 2009, Madres de Plaza de Mayo planted six Ginkgos there. I think you could mention them in the Where section of your page,
Thank you!
Sol

Hi Cor -
Lovely site and I've been a fan for years. Very excited to visit a Master Gardener friend this week and learn that the ginkgo in her front yard is Maryland's tallest!!!! I hope she lists it on your site. She said it was measured by a tall-tree committee some years ago.
I will be growing out seedlings from that tree and offering them for sale in either spring of 2012 or 2013 at the annual Baltimore County Master Gardener plant sale which is a fundraiser for us.

Thanks for the information on this marvelous cite. Question: We are putting in a new backyard in our Capistrano Beach home. We are located in Southern California and live a couple of minutes from the beach. I think we are in Region 10. I dearly want to include a Bligh beautiful Ginkgo Bilbao Chi Chi "Maidenhair" tree. Do you believe that such a tree could thrive, grow and be happy down here? Thanks for your assistance. I look forward to your response.

I have a tree measuring 16' circumference, about 70' height, about 75' canopy spread. I think it may be about 150 years old. I have been researching large ginkos in America. Unfortunately Ginkos are not on the US big tree registry.

I have a female ginkgo tree in my front yard. I didn't know about what to do with the seeds until I read your site. Thank you for the info. Is another name for the tree "peace tree"?

I just visited Riga, Latvia and found three large ginkgos by Pilsetas Kanals, between the Opera house and University. One of them was seed-bearing. I agree that the ginkgo in Tallinn is the northernmost real tree in the world, could this be the northernmost seed-bearing?
