Hi,
A neighbor has a very productive female Ginkgo. I don't know if there are any male Ginkgos in our area. I left many uncleaned seeds outside last winter (minimum temperature around minus 10 degrees Celsius) and tried unsuccessfully to germinate them this spring. Could the seeds from his Ginkgo be sterile?
Thanks.
regards,
Hansel de Sousa

Dear Ginkgo community,
Some time ago I left here message of admire with the site and trees.
And Ernest from Germany took my e-mail and sent me some lines with advice.
I was so "modest", that I asked him about Ginkgo-seeds. Ernest sent me! Please, watch what is the result!

I am so thankful to Ernest.
Do you think Ginkgo can survive our winters?
Siberia: +30 in summer, -20 in winter and sometimes -30.
wikipedia tells that Ginkgos occupied all Siberia at prehistoric time...
We have oaks, lindens here. We grow grape and pirch trees (special coverin winter).

The site is beautiful! I currently do Ginkgo bonsai work and enjoy every second. I love Indiana University; the main reason being the two giant ginkgo trees (male and female). The last couple of summers have been dry, but the she still drops plenty of fruit. Wishing for plenty of rain this year.

Hello, I found another place in Ghent where a Ginkgo stands.
At a field next to "De Verenigde natielaan" at "De watersportbaan".
I think it's a male, but I'm not sure.

P.s. This is a great site!

Not sure if I've already sent this. My question is this...are the seedlings that are sprouting under my female Ginkgo tree female? Is it possible that some of them are male? How old does the tree have to be before you can observe its gender? Just discovered your site tonight so haven't had time to absorb all the info, but it certainly is an appealing site. I planted my backyard tree 40+ yrs. ago, not being aware that the species had a gender. Imagine my surprise when it dropped its first fruit about 5 yrs. ago! Now lots of "babies" sprout every year and have been given away to those willing to deal with the fruit "problem". I hope someone will post an answer to this.

Pleased to have found your wonderful, informative site. Bought a sapling about 3 years ago and it's thriving. Just love the shape, colour and texture of the leaves.

Hi, I´m so glad that I found Your sites. Five years ago I planted a c. 50cm beautiful ginko on my balkony. It seemed to have "found" the perfect place until now. All other plants survived well this winter, but my dear ginko shows only very, very small leaves. I`m so worried and sad. How do I kreate the right treatment for saving and keeping my dear ginko alive? "

There is a huge fruit bearing Ginkgo tree that is part of Andersons history. It is on the cornner of John ST. and W. 14 TH. ST. in Anderson Indiana. It is on the former Wigwam property Which has been sole to a private perst. We need to make sure that this tree is saved. When this was the old Anderson High the tree was always part of a get these leaves science project every year. It is a beautful tree I have pic's The tree is very old. And healthy.

Thank you for your web site. I have 3 gingkos in my yard. One I planted in 1984' and two others more recently.
I have always loved them for their beautiful leaves, and mysterious reproduction, as well as for being living fossils. Unfortunately, I understand why the females are unpopular.
I actuallly try to support native plants, but I love the ginkgos. Thanks for maintaining this website. Your videos and music are a real find.

Hi Cor,
I am responsible for recording champion and heritage trees here in Ireland for the tree council of Ireland.I see your website only includes 2 entries which inadequately represents over 70 mature ginkgos I have recorded of 1m girth or and 10m height. Please visit our website Tree Council of Ireland and click on heritage trees for some of our best examples.Contact Mary Keenan, director of the tree council for permission to include photos and info which might help your website fill the gap in knowledge of our trees.
